California State University Northridge
Kathie Marsaglia is an Associate Professor of Geological Sciences at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Her expertise is sandstone petrology and marine sedimentation and tectonics. She completed her BS and MS in Geology at the University of Illinois, followed by two years at Amoco Production in Houston, before attending UCLA where she developed provenance models for arc-related sand from circum-Pacific Deep Sea Drilling PRogram core samples. After receiving her PhD from UCLA in 1989, she first taught at the University of Texas at El Paso, then worked as a Senior Reservoir Geologist at Westport International in Houston, and finally returned to teaching at CSUN in 2000. Her seagoing experience includes six Ocean Drilling Program Legs. Her current research projects, most with students, involve sand provenance studies in New Zealand, Italy, South America, and southern California, as well as Caribbean and New Guinea ceramic temper (sand) provenance with archaeology colleagues. She is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and an Associate Editor for The Journal of Sedimentary Research.
